by Bea January 14th, 2010 | Dogs
If someone asked you what you thought was the most popular dog breed in America is, you probably could guess which one that was. Well, okay, I would have a tough time picking between Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers. The correct answer is a Labrador Retriever. This is because they are typically great with children and other pets. For some reason they are also one of the easiest dog
“Please Clean Up . . .”
by Jane Wangersky January 11th, 2010 | Cats, Dogs
Someone has to do it – clean the cat’s litter box or follow the dog around with a plastic bag and a scoop. We think of it mostly as keeping our streets and houses clean, but there’s another reason cleaning up pet waste is important: It helps keep contaminants out of our water supply.

The Cats and the Drinking Fountain
by Jane Wangersky January 5th, 2010 | Cats
“Do they try to drink out of faucets?”
“Uh, no . . .”
“Do they drink out of the toilet?”
“No, but . . .”
I didn’t want to tell the pet supply clerk that I wasn’t buying the drinking fountain for my cats because they preferred running water – they don’t – I was buying it because I preferred not to have to keep my eye on their water bowl all day.
Of course, it also would be healthier for them not to drink standing water that might be breeding bacteria, but like a lot of healthy choices, it wouldn’t necessarily taste better.
