Dogs in the (Home) Workplace

by Jane Wangersky September 30th, 2010 | Dogs
Last week, we looked at the challenges of working at home with a cat in the house. So what's it like working with your dog around? Certainly harder, in some ways, but it also has its rewards.

Of course, dogs are much more attuned to humans than cats are. This means they'll want to see a lot more of you, but it isn't all about them.

Ronda Payne, a work-at-home pet owner, says there are times when her dog, Brandie, really needs to play with her. Brandie expresses this by dragging toys into the office and making noise until she

Maintaining A Fish Aquarium

by Anna P. September 29th, 2010 | Fish
Fish are relatively easy pets to care for. You just have to feed them and clean their aquarium of a frequent basis.  There is no need to entertain them, groom them, or take them out for walks. Pet owners who work from home have special challenges. How do you make sure you give enough time to both the work and the pets? How do you get animals to understand that sometimes they have to leave you alone to get things done?

We'll start by looking at cats with work-at-home owners. It might seem that cats, being independent, solitary, and nocturnal, would leave you in peace to get your work done. But you can't count on it -- much depends on their personalities.

Our cats' reaction to my going into the home office seems to be, "All right --

Does it matter what brand of food we buy?

by Amber Andersen DVM September 21st, 2010 | Ask the Vet
There are so many brands of dog food.  We are getting a puppy from the pound next week.

It is extremely important to purchase a high quality dog food for puppies, adults and senior canines. Dogs have different nutritional requirements based on their age, size and health status. Improper feeding can result in bone growth and learning abnormalities. It is hard enough to train a puppy. Make sure you are feeding them correctly and they won’t have to learn how to sit while hungry! Your veterinarian should give you a recommendation for specific brands of
