Doberman Rescue Unlimited

Dogs

Up until a few years ago, I always lived with a doberman pincher. Unlike the stereotypical vicious guard dog that movies make them out to be, dobermen are quite sweet! My first dog was very quiet and laid back. She would greet people at the door, and although she may have looked “scary” to strangers, she never would bite. I must say that she was a good “burglar” alarm, however, she was no match to my second doberman. But of course, this one was extremely sweet and fun loving, as well as very energetic.

My family had to do some retraining with our second doberman. She came to us as a very timid girl because she had been abused at her other home. We were so lucky to have adopted her from Doberman Rescue Unlimited(DRU) in Sandown, NH.

DRU is a rescue shelter for dobermen that has very nice facilities, great staff, and more. DRU is a nonprofit, charitable organization that has provided rescue services to more than 2,000 dogs throughout the greater New England region and New York. They usually have around 40-50 dogs to take care of at any given time. Every dog has received a full medical exam, is spayed or neutered, is immunized and heartworm tested, and is tattooed with a number registered with the National Dog Registry.

Their goal is to find every doberman a safe home. DRU has a very thorough adoption process that helps to place every doberman in the home that is most ideal for them. You must first fill out an application, and then a volunteer will contact you. This volunteer will visit your home just to make sure that everything is okay. Then, you are invited to the shelter to meet the dogs that have been selected as “good matches.” The rest is up to you!
