Halloween is for Chickens

Chickens

On the afternoon of October 31st, all four children at the Kuegler mini-farm were busy carving pumpkins.  Typically when they carve pumpkins, a big concern is saving the seeds for roasting.  However, this year they had a different concern.  They needed to save the filling for the girls.

Yes, even though they were excited for the sugar fix that would arrive later that evening, our four kids (ages 7-12) were thinking about what would be exciting for our chickens.  They all know that seeds are on top of the list.

The kids did save some seeds for their own munching enjoyment.  However, all of the pumpkin “guts” and many of the seeds were collected in a large bowl for our flock.  And with four pumpkins, the bowl was quite full!

When the carving was completed and the pumpkins were placed on our front porch, the bowl of pumpkin treats was brought to the girls.  They were as excited as our kids are when they receive full-size candy bars while trick or treating.

I would think both the kids and the chickens are excited for the next arrival of this pumpkin-based holiday.

They are SO cute. I bet that they chase the one that has the last part around the pen.
