Natural Flea Remedies For Pets

Spring has sprung and now we are heading into summer flea season. It’s time to start protecting our pets (if we haven’t already) with a natural flea remedy. Why choose natural? Most flea medications and remedies contain harsh and toxic chemicals that could harm your pet, especially over-the-counter flea-killing products.  Some of these products are also harmful to humans.  So what are your natural flea remedy alternatives? Lets find out.

1- Flea Comb

Using a fine tooth comb, gently run this comb through your pet’s fur to catch fleas and eggs, then dip the comb into a bucket of soapy water to drown the parasites.  Any fine tooth comb will work, but buy one designated for removing fleas. This is a time consuming method, but it works well without harming your pet.

2- Clean Your Home Frequently

Fleas may live on your pet, but they can also escape and live underneath your carpet. Vacuum at least once or every other day, and change your bedding about twice a week. Launder all your sheets and bedding in hot water about once a week.

3-  Think Herbal Solutions

Sometimes you can use herbs or essential oils to control your pet’s flea problems.  Some pet stores and health shops sell herbal flea collars.  Check to see if the collar was specified for your dog or cat — never use a dog collar on a cat or vice versa.
