Its so important for kids to understand things like responsibility and respect for all living creatures, both of which can be learned via pet ownership. As a precautionary reminder, when you decide to let your child adopt a cat or dog, make sure that they are old enough to take responsible ownership. They need to realize that a living creature is not something you can just play with and put up for the rest of the day.
