If you’ve decided to own a dog, you must take the responsibility of being a good owner. Being a good owner doesn’t only mean you have to feed the dog, it also means you have to love the dog and be concerned for the dog’s health.
I hate people who breed their dogs even if their dogs are not yet physically and mentally ready to be bred.
You know you’re an irresponsible breeder if you:

1. Think your dog is cute and wants to see what its litter would look like if you bred it with another kind of dog. I hate to hear people saying, “My Shih Tzu is cute and I wonder if I can breed her with a Labrador.”
2. Want to breed your dog on her very first heat cycle. Dogs that are having their first heat are not fully matured…they are still young and need nutrients to grow up properly. So, when they got pregnant on their first heat, their puppies may take the nutrients their bodies need to grow. Also, the young mother can’t fully take care of her offspring at an early age.
3. Let your dog get pregnant, and didn’t give the care she needed. There are people who breed only to gain profit, but they are not concerned with their dog’s health. They didn’t even bother to bring their dogs to the veterinarian to see if their dogs are OK.
4. Didn’t give your dogs the regular vaccines. Don’t you know that dogs who are not vaccinated are prone to acquire diseases, especially rabies? Anti-rabies shots are very important especially if you have children at home who play with your dogs.
5. Sell the puppies to somebody without investigating if the new owner is capable of caring and loving the dog. There are people who buy puppies because they think it’s cute, but when the pup gets older, they realize that they can’t take care of the dog anymore, so, they give the dog away or let it stay on streets. This experience is very traumatic for the dog.

I’ve always thought that Rusty would make pretty puppies, but I’m not just going to randomly mate him, and he will probably NEVER be a daddy.
Boomer, our labrador, has so many medical problems that breeding him is 100% out of the picture. It would be unfair to his possible puppies.
