We had a telling experience with pit bulls. One neighbor family had one pit and the dog was scary - but so was the owner. Both were mean and unruly. A second neighbor had 2 pit bulls, and the owners and the pits were wonderful neighbors. Any animal in the wrong hands can be bad. It is not the dogs fault. The 2 were loving and very well trained and a joy to have around.

Thank you for posting this article. My hubby and I used to have a pit bull. He was the sweetest most loving dog anyone could ever hope for. He loved our family and was great with children. We would not hesitate to get another one. The breed has suffered from "a few bad apples spoil the bunch" type scenario. I hope that more people will give them a chance.

We have a bully baby that we got when she was 4 weeks old! She is so sweet and loving and is a perfect companion to our 22 month old daughter! We also have a beagle and everyone gets along well! I would have another pit any day, they can be strong willed, you just need to teach them. We have done obedience training with Zoe from the beginning and she is a loving member of our family!

I have been around dogs for many years as a groomer and a kennel worker. Rarely, have I come across an aggressive pitt. Most of the aggressive dogs tend to be the little guys: Yorkies (which I used to breed), Chihauhas, etc. I guess they have a Napolean complex. LOL

As the mom of a bully, this subject is near and dear to my heart. Did you also know that at the turn of the century in England pits were known as nanny dogs because people would let them mind the children and babies. Helen Keller had a pit. So did Betty Boop. The little Rascals dogs was a pit. It's really in only the last 50-75 years they've gotten the reputation they have and it's totally not true. Just look at what has been done with the Michael Vick dogs to know these dogs are not vicious killers. My pit has been the greatest dog I've ever owned. I know there will be lots more pits in my future.
